Bubbles. First Words. Community.

Summer with a baby or toddler doesn't have to be packed with expensive outings or perfectly planned activities. Some of the best summer memories are often the simplest, a morning at the park, bubbles floating through the air, singing favourite songs together, or sharing a snack on a picnic blanket.

As pediatric speech-language pathologists at ABC Pediatric Therapies in Orléans, Ottawa, we love reminding families that these everyday moments are doing so much more than creating happy memories.

They're helping your child build the foundations for communication!

Communication starts with engagement. Early speech therapy strategies. Orléans ABC Speech Therapy Clinic.
Communication grows through play, connection, and the little moments you share every day.

Communication Starts Long Before First Words

One of the questions we hear most often is: "My child isn't talking yet. Is there anything I should be doing?"

The answer is yes, but it probably isn't what you think!

Long before children say their first words, they're learning to communicate by:

  • smiling and sharing enjoyment

  • pointing to interesting things

  • taking turns during play

  • copying sounds, gestures, and actions

  • understanding everyday words and routines

  • interacting with the people around them

These early communication skills are the building blocks for speech, language, social communication, and later literacy. That's why understanding your child's speech and language milestones and seeking early intervention when concerns arise can make a meaningful difference.

Play isn't "just play." It's how babies learn to connect, communicate, and discover the world around them.

Why We Created Babble Buddies Summer Pop-Ups

One thing we hear from families throughout Orléans and Ottawa is that they're looking for fun, welcoming activities where little ones can play while parents connect with other local families. That's exactly why we created Babble Buddies Summer Pop-Ups.

These relaxed community gatherings are designed for babies and toddlers (0–24 months) and their parents or caregivers.

Together we'll enjoy:

  • 🎵 Songs and rhymes

  • 📚 Interactive stories

  • 🫧 Bubbles

  • 🌈 Movement and parachute play (when space allows)

  • 🤍 Plenty of opportunities to play, connect, and build community

While your little one is busy exploring, they're also building early communication skills through joyful, everyday experiences, and you'll have the chance to connect with other parents who are in the same stage of life.
